I’m a lifelong surfer and musician. Both disciplines are rooted in the understanding of systems and relationships between elements.
Surfing is about reading the ocean: Recognizing a wave before it arrives, timing the takeoff, and adapting in real time with precision and flow.
Music is built on patterns and structure: Creating something meaningful from a limited set of notes by understanding how small details shape the whole.
Design is no different. It requires a deep understanding of users, systems, and constraints. That understanding leads to clear and effective decisions. Design tools and AI can accelerate execution, but they don’t replace the need for strong fundamentals, thoughtful judgment, and the ability to adapt as new information emerges.
